Beetroot poriyal is healthy, tasty and colorful side dish that is a great accomplishment for sambar rice, curd rice. This poriyal is very simple to prepare and with natural sweetness from beetroot.

Beetroot is rich in iron and helps to prevent anemia. They contain natural dietary fiber. Also with many vital vitamins. Let’s go into the recipe.

Ingredients

  • 1/4 kg Grated / finely chopped Beetroot
  • 1 medium Onion
  • 1 Green chilli
  • handful Curry leaves
  • 1/4 cup Water
  • Salt required
  • 3 spoon Grated Coconut

To temper,

  • 2 spoon Oil
  • 1 spoon Mustard seeds
  • 1/2 spoon Urad dal
  • 1/2 spoon Channa dal
  • 1/2 spoon Cumin seeds

Instructions 

  • Do the tempering in a pan.
  • Saute onions till golden brown.
  • Add chilli and curry leaves.
  • Add chopped beetroot.
  • Add water.
  • Add salt and cook covered for 10 mins until beets is cooked well.
  • Finally add grated coconut.

Notes

  • You can either grate or chop the beetroot.
  • Adding coconut gives nice taste.
  • You can add red chilli too.
