Homemade Sathumaavu recipe for babies and toddlers (10+ months)

Hi friends, this homemade sathumaavu flour is a requested recipe from one of my viewer. So I’m glad to share it with you.

Health mix flour/ Sathumaavu is a very essential and a must in our babies and toddlers diet since it is rich in iron, protein, calcium, folic acid and what not?! Since we are using many lentils, nuts and millets, it is very nutritious and helps in healthy weight gain in our kids.

This powder can be used in different ways.

  • Can use this powder to prepare porridge for small babies.
  • Use this powder to prepare idly and dosa for toddlers.
  • Can prepare Kozhukattai/ Dumplings with this flour.
  • Can prepare healthy laddus with this.

Ingredients

  • 100 gms Pearl millet/ Kambu
  • 1/4 kg Finger millet/ Ragi
  • 100 gms Green gram/ Pachai Payiru
  • 100 gms Groundnut
  • 100 gms Fried gram dal/ Pottukadalai
  • 150 gms Black urad dal
  • 100 gms Red rice
  • 100 gms Horse gram/ Kollu
  • 100 gms Black channa dal
  • 100 gms Broken wheat
  • 100 gms Barley
  • 100 gms Sago/ Javvarisi
  • 100 gms Maize/ Makkacholam
  • 100 gms Sorghum
  • 100 gms Red poha
  • 100 gms Badam/ Almonds
  • 100 gms Cashews`
  • 100 gms White Soya
  • 100 gms Dry ginger/ Chukku
  • 6 Cardamom

Instructions 

  • Dry roast all the ingredients one by one and grind in mill.
  • Store in airtight container.

Notes

  • It has shelf life of 6 months if handled properly in room temperature.
  • You can add any nuts of your choice.
  • Always use clean and dry spoon.

    • Hi Gowri, for making porridge take 2 tbsp of sathumaavu powder and mix with a cup of water and start cooking on low flame until raw smell leaves. For babies above 1 yr, instead of water add milk and cook the porridge. Finally you can add salt or naatu chakkarai according to your babies preference and serve the baby warm. You may also add few drops of ghee after cooking.
