Handi chicken is a yogurt based chicken gravy that goes well with rice, chapathi or even roti. This chicken gravy will be so creamy as in restaurants. The main flavor of this grvay is from the masala paste that we prepare and also from the fresh yogurt used.
Chicken is cooked in a onion tomato mixture and finally mixed with cashew paste and yogurt. Thich makes it more creamy and to get a nice texture to the gravy. This gravy will also taste great for rasam rice and sambar rice too.

Handi Chicken | Chicken gravy for rice and roti | Curd Chicken gravy
Handi chicken is a yogurt based chicken gravy that goes well with rice, chapathi or even roti. This chicken gravy will be so creamy as in restaurants. The main flavor of this grvay is from the masala paste that we prepare and also from the fresh yogurt used.

Ingredients
- 2 nos. Onion
- 2 tbsp Ginger garlic paste
- 2 nos. Tomatoes
- 5 nos. Cashews
- 1/4 tsp Turmeric powder
- 1 tsp Coriander powder
- 1 tsp Chilli powder
- 1 tbsp Kashmiri chilli powder
- 1/2 tsp Garam masala
- 600 gms Chicken with bones
- 1/2 cup Curd (beaten)
- Salt to taste
- 3 tbsp Oil
- handful Coriander leaves
- 1/2 cup Water
- 2 tbsp Fresh cream (optional)
Instructions
- In a pan, add oil and saute the onions.
- Add the ginger garlic paste and saute well.
- In a mixer jar, add tomatoes and cashews and blend them to a fine paste.
- Add the spice powders to the sauteed onions.
- Add the washed chicken pieces and saute them.
- Add the tomato that we blended previously.
- Add salt and beaten curd.
- Mix everything well and add water, cook covered for 15-20 mins till the chicken is cooked well.
- Finally add the chopped coriander leaves.
- You may add fresh cream at this stage.
- Handi chicken is ready to be served.
Notes
- You may soak cashews for 10 mins in hot water before grinding.
- Adjust spice powders according to your taste preference.
- It is must to beat the curd well before adding to the gravy or it will start to curdle.
- Adding fresh cream is optional. It gives restaurant touch to the gravy.
- This gravy is a multipurpose gravy. This goes well with chapathi, rice and roti and even with dosa too.
